This second Debian-Installer release candidate is expected to be the final release of the installer for Debian 3.1 (sarge). Limited changes have been made to the installer since the pre-rc2 release last month, but there are a few:

* Support for LVM volumes on software RAID.
* Experimental support for installing with the 2.6 kernel on the hppa architecture.
* Lots of improvements to the installation manual, which is now fully translated to Spanish, French, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Czech
* Fixes for most errata items.
* More bug fixes than we care to recall.

ROCK is a Distribution Build Kit. You can configure your personal build of ROCK and easily build your own distribution. It is software for managing operating environments. In a way it is a software development toolkit for building OS solutions.

Eine Uebersicht zu ROCK Linux. In der Praesentation werde ich aufzeigen wie die Entwicklung und Wartung eigener Linux Distributionen durch den Einsatz von ROCK Linux stark vereinfacht wird. Dabei wird sowohl eine Uebersicht ueber die Komponenten des Build-Systems als auch detailierte Erlaeuterungen zu exemplarischen Codebeispielen geboten werden.

Polen gegen Einführung von Softwarepatenten in Europa. [golem.de]

Am Freitag geht’s wieder los! Bereits zum fünften Mal findet in diesem Jahr das Festival der Cocktail-Robotik “Roböxotica” im Wiener Museumsquartier statt. Partizipieren!

Die Archivierung digitaler Daten ist ein Problem, das uns allen in den nächsten Jahren und Jahrzehnten noch großes Kopfzerbrechen bereiten wird. Die Library of Congress versucht nun erste Lösungsansätze zu finden. [siehe futureZone.at]

Wenn man sicher sein möchte, dass man seine Daten auch in 20 Jahren noch aus dem Regal holen kann um etwas nachzusehen, schlage ich den Weg über den Drucker vor!

Am kommenden Samstag findet in der HTL Dornbirn der 6. LinuxDay statt. Die Liste der Vorträge sieht vielversprechend aus. Partizipieren! Ich werde auf jeden Fall dort sein!

Hier finden sich eine Menge Algorithmen zur Primzahlgenerierung. Echt ‘was zum Spaß haben!

Fun With Prime Numbers contains a series of prime number finding algorithms starting with the most brute force imaginable, and working up to a paged algorithm capable of finding the first 1,716,050,469 primes in an hour and a half on a commodity machine. There are faster algorithms on the net, but these algorithms are within the reach of mere mortals and are fully explained.
